Travelling With Pets Over the Holidays: Car, Plane or Pet Sitter?
By car
- Secure pets in a crash-tested crate or harness, never loose or on a lap.
- Stop every two to three hours for water and a toilet break.
- Never leave a pet alone in a parked car.
By plane
Rules vary by airline and country. Book early because cabin spaces are limited, and check vaccination, microchip and health certificate requirements for your destination well in advance.
Staying with family
Ask about other pets, set up a quiet room and bring your pet's own bed and food.
Boarding or a sitter
Book early for the holidays, tour the facility, check vaccination requirements and leave clear written instructions, medication schedules and your vet's number.
Packing list
Food, bowls, medicines, lead, waste bags, bed, a favourite toy, vaccination records, a recent photo of your pet and a small pet first aid kit.
